  Vintage Kennel Club
Mike Wiess and Brian Ness

Mike and Brian have combined both Mike’s background and love of hospitality and Brian’s passion for caring for animals to create the vision of Vintage Kennel Club.

Mike grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison. During and after college, he worked at a University conference and guest center before ending up at Charles Schwab in San Francisco.

Brian always had a passion for animals, growing up on a farm in Northern Minnesota. Brian learned about animal behavior and care from practical experience at home and from 4-H. After graduating from Moorhead State University, Brian had a career in outside sales with Teleflora before buying the property that is now Vintage Kennel Club.

Brian and Mike have been raising and showing Wheaten Terriers since 1995. They also show Irish Wolfhounds and showed Kerry Blue Terriers in the past. Korbel, our Kerry Blue Terrier, was the #1 dog in New Zealand All Breeds and the Supreme Show Dog of the Year in 2006.

The Vintage Kennel Club family includes Irish Wolfhounds, Draft Horses, Friesians, a Pony, Miniature Donkeys, a Dromedary Camel, Goats, Chickens, Ducks and 2 Great Pyrenees, livestock guardian dogs.

Brian is on the Board of Directors for, a local animal shelter, and is the Sonoma Valley 4-H dog care leader. He works with the 4-H kids to educate them on socialization, training and proper dog care.

We are very proud of what we do and love caring for the dogs. We did not realize how much we would come to love the people that came with the dogs. It is sometimes hard to tell if we are working or playing.

Together, we at VKC work to keep our guests happy, safe and healthy, giving you peace of mind knowing your dog is well cared for and having fun while you are away.

Susan Colter is a dog care specialist with eight years professional experience caring for dogs at daycare and boarding establishments. Three of those years were with Vintage Kennel Club in its beginning where she helped develop operational procedures, some of which are still in use today. Born in San Jose, and raised in Southern California, Susan grew up with two beloved dogs, Ginger and Primo; the bond she had with her dogs was also a discovery — she had an innate connection with animals. As an adult, she spent a decade in aerospace where she provided administrative support to various Navy programs and one commercial program — the Hughes Aircraft think tank that created DirecTV. Susan moved to the Bay area in the late 90’s to help raise her nieces and search for more fulfilling work. After working for a consulting firm for 4 years, Susan rediscovered her passion and true calling — caring for dogs. Susan’s hobbies include hiking, volunteering as a dog walker for Sonoma County Animal Services and vacationing with her husband.

Donielle was born and raised in California’s Central Valley. She grew up in a household with a variety of pets and has always loved being around animals. Since obtaining a BA in Anthropology and a minor in Earth Sciences from the University of California at Santa Cruz, Donielle has worked as an archaeological technician and has 5+ years professional experience as an animal caretaker. Although work in cultural resource management allows her to explore beautiful regions of the country, work as an animal caretaker allows her to be more involved in an animal-loving community. Donielle enjoys spending her free time being active. This usually includes: hiking, kickboxing, or practicing landscape photography.

Alexandra grew up in a small town in the foothills called San Andreas.  She has loved animals her whole life and is finally doing what she loves.  Her hobbies include drawing, painting and the studies of Biology/Earth Science. She hopes to own multiple dogs throughout her lifelong journey.

Jessica was born and raised in Petaluma and lives with her mom and a close friend.  She found her passion for animals in high school when she volunteered at the Petaluma animal shelter for her senior project.  Jessica’s first job was working at a grocery store where after three years she recognized that she wanted to work with animals and so she got her first kennel job working with dogs, cats and every now and then a bunny.  Jessica has over four years of kennel work experience, where she has gained the knowledge and the skills needed for the specialized care of dogs, their socialization, and the administration of all forms of medication.
Jessica loves nature, food, music, art and to just be happy.
